For years now there has been speculation and a huge request from long time Final Fantasy fans about a complete high definition remake of the beloved classic Final Fantasy 7, Back in 1997 when the title was first released on Playstation 1 players were amazed with how open and diverse the game was with an open world, full of all types of enemies, moves and different combinations of materia. As well as great characters and a very memorable storyline, players instantly fell in love with this great game and to this day it is still regarded as one of the greatest games.

When asked if there is a chance we will ever relive our favourite game in the future Square Enix the developer of the game sent out an announcement.
Square Enix: “We will only consider this once a brand new game in the franchise exceeds the quality of that found in FF7.”
Now it might be a glimmer of hope for eager fans but it also seems rather sad to hear seeing as trying to exceed the quality of FF7 would be next to impossible as it is considered a classic title and most classics can never be exceeded in the eyes of it’s fans. Who knows? Maybe this is just their way of throwing off speculation and they know they will have to remake it eventually and are just trying to keep it a bit of a secret. We can only hope, Square Enix is sitting on a gold mine and if they released something of this caliber tuned to the way everyone is happy with they will see huge sales and praise from around the world.

I think what is most off putting for them is exactly that, remaking it but still respecting the legacy and what made it so great. Usually companies like to change things around so they are a bit more modern but for this game especially it should only be about a few changes being: graphics, sound and GUI. The battle system is perfect and doesn’t need any changes at all, yes we will be okay with effects, sound and graphics being upgraded but keep the selecting a move and materia system all the same. [image src=’http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/04/FFVIIsephirothkillsaeris.png’ width=’300′ height=’200′ title=’Imagine reliving all your favourite moments in high definition’ align=’right’] As for free movement in the open world I hope it isn’t just quick travelling and we can actually move about on our own and explore, this was one of the best perks of this game and if we can fly around in our own airship and select our own party members like before in an open and graphically amazing world then this game would be astounding.
It will be an instant hit and become a huge amount of people’s favourite game ever. The only obstacle in the way is where to start on this giant scale game, you need a huge development team as well as a giant budget to enhance every single aspect which will take a very long time to complete. Will we see this masterpiece on the new and powerful PS4? It certainly has the capabilities to pull this off, Right now it’s in their hands so we can only wait and see.
I would love to see a remake on the PS4 and hope we get to see it completed in the future, for now we can enjoy the upcoming Final Fantasy XV and watch as Square Enix continue to tease us for years to come.

Here are some hopeful quotes through the years from Square Enix about a possible remake:
- In March 2010, CEO Yoichi Wada revealed “Square Enix were exploring the possibility of a remake, following the high demand.”
- Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama stated, “If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project. If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake.”
- Producer of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Yoshinori Kitase revealed: “Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility,” he said. “I don’t know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won’t rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen. “But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I’ve done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I’m very happy with. It’s a huge thing for me.”
