The public had not previously been informed of his cancer disease from any official sources.
David Bowie 44-year-old son Duncan Jones tweeted the following message:

Just days ago, Bowie had thrilled the music listening public with his new album “Black Star” released right on his 69th birthday on January 8th.
He was one of the largest and most influential musicians of the past decades. The singer was married to the model Iman who leading up to January 10th had been posting reportedly “sadder tweets” which may indicate the doctors had given advance notice of his condition – ofcourse this is just speculation however the nature of the tweets do seem to be of hope.

Bowie has sold in his life more than 100 million records. In addition to his engagement as a singer, he joined as a producer, actor and painter in his long and proud career.
His 1967 published debut album “David Bowie” did not share the late success. It was more oriented towards folk and ultimately was a flop.
But two years later with the breakthrough “Space Oddity” and the title song on the fictional astronaut Major Tom.
