It has been quite a wait since we first saw previews of the WWE Network… want to know something shocking? The first teaser aired in 2011.
But in the words of the immortal great one… FINALLY… the WWE Network has come to reality.
When I thought the best news coming out of CES 2014 was a sub-$1000 4K TV from Kogan which would be making it’s way to Australia (again… FINALLY!) here came Vinny Mac.
Mr. McMahon was hitched up with WWE stars including the victim of can’t-drop-a-title-for-longer-than-a-month’itis John Cena, the Texas Rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austin and of course Trips.
The WWE at CES? What on earth are they doing there? This is hardly a place to pull another Katie Vick angle…
That is when it happened and raising the microphone in classic Vinnie authority… so was announced the WWE Network. February 24th is where it all starts.
We at FNX wish them all the success they truly deserve, this is not just great for us fans of the squared circle but also terrific for the future of TV.
On demand content, and scheduled live programming, and PPV and eras of libraries that go through WWE, WWF, WCW and ECW? Count me right in!
Unfortunately for me and everywhere else in the world not ‘Murican, the WWE Network will be US only for now. I do hope it makes its way to Australia, I would not hesitate to subscribe… especially if it keeps it’s $10 a month fee. This is a country where a single provider holds “premium” TV in an unfair monopoly. This would be a game changer.
Going from paying almost $700 a year for HD PPV’s to receiving that and thousands of hours in their library catering to archival presentations, including every single past Pay-Per-View ever from WWE, WCW and ECW, plus reprises of previously aired RAW and SmackDown! Episodes – for only $120 sounds very enticing.
A move like this ensures not only did Vince win the Monday Night Wars, he’s about to solve the problem with TV in the second decade of this century.
It get’s better… yes, I kid you not. New shows on the WWE Network will incorporate NXT, weekly pre-RAW and SmackDown! Shows as well as a episode to wrap up what just happened. Not enough for you? What about a live daily studio show (Oh I hope they bring back a call in segement).
Legends House will be an original reality series debuting on the new network where WWE superstars of the bygone eras like Rowdy Roddy Piper and Big Jimmy Duggan live in a house together (Big Brother-esque) and allow their passions or anger to vent.
The Monday Night War will be an fragmentary series recounting the colossal feud between the then WWF and WCW in the 90’s Attitude era. What would a WWE Network be without fan participation? WWE Countdown will be a platform for fans vote for the best catchphrase, entrance, attire, comeback and other characteristics made popular in WWE history. Additionaly, WWE Wrestlemania Rewind, will emphasise with famous WrestleMania bouts in a greater depth including interviews with the competitors.
The WWE Network will be accessible on the usual suspects including most Android and iOS devices. Furthermore it can be watched on a Kindle Fire, Roku range of devices, even the PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and soon the Xbox One and even possibly Smart TV’s.
It seems to good to be true, usually this is indicative to the fact that it is. Honestly this is a genuine gem in the world of TV broadcasting. However, it should be noted that to get $10 a month you must commit to a minimum of 6 months however just look at what you pay for a PPV already and it works out much better.
Besides, you can give it a go before you sign a contract. The WWE Network will be obtainable as a limited time ‘free one week trial’ after its February 24 inauguration.
Lucky Americans! You only have a few weeks left to wait. As for the rest of us, we should get a chance by the end of 2014 or early 2015.
I for one can’t wait.
