The poor Wii U hasn’t had the astounding beginning as its precursor seemed to have. Today it appears as though Nintendo has admitted to that, by conceding that the “little console that should of” has fallen well short of their monetary desires.
Nintendo’s statement was that the company neglected to achieve fitting deals throughout the big shopping year-end season, a time when incomes are budgeted the most. Without a deal, the offer of high-edge programming fell far short of Nintendo’s projections.
The organization now holds responsibility of a ¥35b loss in projection for the budgetary year, the 3DS handheld console has likewise not met their desired target. This is a big blow to a company who was expecting a profit of ¥100b especially now running at a loss for the third year in a row.
In many ways it is an odd result, the US alone spent US-$1.3b in the last Christmas period. Also, in terms of gaming consoles, 2014 will mark the third year in a peak of consumer sales. Satoshi Iwata, Nintendo’s president, feels this as a significant blow in the wake of guaranteeing to turn the organization around.
The numbers say Nintendo should be making money, the fact is they are not.
Iwata also says that Wii U to the public has little contrast from the Wii and conceded that Nintendo has neglected to separate the Wii U brand from the Wii brand.
He also specified that his own 10 year old child, who owns both a Wii and DS, had indicated no personal investment or interest in the Wii U.
We can only wait and see what comes from this, hopefully not a result that happened to Sega many years ago.
