[dropcaps style=’2′]Carl Ledbetter, lead developer of the Xbox One has come out publicly that Microsoft had an early prototype of the latest gen of Xbox with Kinect actually included in the console.[/dropcaps]
However, it was scrapped due to an age old issue… it was ugly as all to give. Ledbetter said that including it would of pushed the team to force the console to be all-in-one which, according to himself, the technology just wasn’t there at the time.
Plus would anyone be capable of putting an entire Xbox balanced on top of their TV’s? Would they actually want too?
He went on to design the new Kinect peripheral which is a point that contributes to our surprise that he is okay with the upcoming release from Microsoft – a Kinect-less Xbox One.
He was quoted “It’s all designed together, it’s holistic and in the version that consumers can buy that doesn’t include Kinect, it still all works. And so I think I share the same opinion that everybody does that by having more choice for the consumer, and a new point of entry for them, it’s great.”
In addition to this recent murmurings from the development team that the new version of Xbox One will see improved graphics since the Kinect won’t be consuming resources in its absence.
The Kinect-less Xbox One comes out June 9.
