Motorola goes 5G
Since launching the moto z3 and 5G moto mod earlier this year, we’ve continued to work with our partners to make the future of 5G a reality in 2019. Today, we’re celebrating the next major milestone on that journey.
Using a commercial 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) network in Providence, RI and Verizon’s 28 GHz spectrum, we were able to successfully complete the first data transmission test with a moto z3 paired with a 5G moto mod. The successful test was completed with the same device consumers will use on Verizon’s 5G mobile network and is the latest in a series of 5G milestones Verizon and its technology partners have achieved in recent months on the path to commercial 5G mobile service in 2019.
When paired with the 5G moto mod, the moto z3 will be the world’s first smartphone with access to Verizon’s 5G Network, delivering a new beginning for indulging in video, connecting home devices, working remotely and gaming in AR and VR. The 5G moto mod™ is powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X50 5G modem and includes QTM052 mmWave antenna modules.
This 5G milestone comes on the heels of our recent CES 2019 Innovation Honoree Awards for the moto z3 and 5G moto mod in the Wireless Devices, Accessories and Services category. The CES Innovation Awards recognize Honorees across 28 product categories and celebrate products that embody outstanding aesthetic, design and engineering qualities.
