Nokia has entered the Android game, quite interestingly it is at a time where it seems Samsung is on it’s way out, they have released a number of phones in their budget phones line operated by the infamous open-source mobile OS.
Released under the Nokia brand ‘X’, these devices are made to not allow access to Google services but in fact designed specifically for Microsoft Services (ie. Outlook, Skype, Xbox Live, etc.) as stated in Nokia’s announcement during the 2014 Mobile World Congress.
But of course, once you say “you don’t have access” someone on the web says “challenge accepted”. This morning, an anonymous XDA developer made an interesting submission which only could have eventually been accepted – a simple guide, we mean only five steps, to get the usual Google offerings and services. working on the Microsoft-only Nokia X.
Users who apply this guide enable use of the Google Play store to download other apps and of course the collection which that allows such as Gmail, Hangouts and Drive.
Interestingly, Nokia has not condemned this action but instead have gone on Twitter to say they are excited to see progress being made. This is a smart move as the dual services could attract Android fans to enjoy the device as well as those who prefer the Windows platform.
