In what is first update since 2011, Blizzard has patched Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3. The main fix? Getting these games to work on the latest releases of Mac OS X and Windows 10.
Diablo 2, released in 2000 (yes, 16 years ago) is now up to version 1.14a and also promoted the strategy Warcraft 3 title to version 1.27a. For both games this is the first update since the patch 1.13d for Diablo 2 and the patch 1.26a for Warcraft 3 appeared in 2011.
Blizzard being Blizzard released some handy update notes. Among the changes the patch 1.27a for Warcraft 3 include a new installer for Mac OS X which allows us still holding on to a PowerPC based Mac (Power Mac G5 running 10.4.11 and the game in classic OS 9 mode in my case) to finally retire the old guys (or atleast from having to play these games). Mac OS X 10.10 and 10.11 are now supported and improved compatibility for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. In addition, is a fix of the infamous crash while casting Chain Lightning.
For Diablo 2, the developer also mentions a new installer for Mac OS X. In addition, Blizzard working to optimize the cheat detection and cracking down on game hacks. The patch 1.14a is just the beginning, the support of modern platforms seems to be the start of this VERY long support endeavour.
Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos was released in 2002 and is still regarded as one of the best RTS according to critics (you should ask Top 5 Geek, SOGOpod and Project 752 also). Diablo 2 was released in 2000 and is regarded as one of the best in the series… again, ask our authors…
