Mario is back and with a new game! Who would of thought we’d see Mario in a high definition cat outfit? Join up with 4 players in this multi world platform based game to try and retrieve all the Sprixies back from our good old nemesis, the wickedly evil Bowser.
Filled with many types of different power ups and special abilities, you can fly, sprint or crawl through any level however you want and beat any enemy you come across with a vast amount of different moves and attacks.

Initial Impression

I played this game with my brother and found it to be pretty entertaining and filled with many fun tasks like completing a level with all stars, completing a race with the fastest time or with my crown still on for an added bonus or even just collecting all the stamps to use on the Miiverse.

Plot

The plot is bland however, there is actually next to no plot. Seven fairies come along and then get captured and placed in castles in separate worlds so it’s your job to have to get them back for some reason as a cat. Pretty simple right?
You have the option of being Mario, Luigi, Peach or Toad at the beginning, all with minor differences and with the opportunity to unlock a few more characters once the game is completed. Although I don’t see any reason to replay the game once everything has been done the first time.

Controls

I also found the camera to be a bit off putting as I found myself falling off cliffs that looked to be right under me, multiplayer cameras always struggle to give a fair view for everyone.

Graphics

The graphics were a major plus, everything looks so smooth and straight out of a pixar film, Even the smoke trail from when you are running looks good enough to eat.

Soundtrack

The music was amazing! Nintendo have really stepped up their in game music by implementing orchestral music played by absolutely wonderful talented musical artists to really give the game a real sound. It sounds fantastic with the high definition graphics it makes you feel like you’re truly in the next generation of gaming.

Originality

The ability to change abilities is awesome and handy, if you get bored with an ability that you’ve been using for a while you can just throw it in your inventory and put something else on.
I also like the special disguises like becoming a goomba to disguise yourself as the enemy allowing you to sneak past or becoming an ice skate in the snow levels to get around the ice fields faster or even a mystery box that constantly gives you coins every second that you have it on.

Difficulty

The difficulty is rather easy tho and there are no toggles to increase the difficulty of the levels or enemies, I was literally running circles around most of my enemies and I could beat a level boss with just 3 jumps in just a short couple of seconds.
The levels as well are very short and are completed in just a minute or two.

Conclusive

If you have played Super Mario Brothers on the Wii then you’ll love Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U.

All in all this is a pretty good game that is fun with multiple people, You can throw your friends off the map, sabotage the tasks as a troll and help each other out by throwing each other up to hard to reach places when you’ve lost your special ability.
Although the game is quite short with only 8 worlds you can still have fun with this and your Wii U.
