The Presidential battleground has expanded on to live stream gaming. New York rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez aka AOC recently flung together a Twitch channel to play, with a live audience, the popular indie game Among Us in hopes to get the word out to vote to younger voters.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is known to play games during her free time, recently she was getting into Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Switch; visiting islands and trying out advice. She has spoken of accomplishments in League of Legends among other games so it’s not surprise that she’s earned a lot of praise, or at least attention, from the gaming community.

The starting gun was shot a few days ago when she tweeted out that she would be hopping into the popular game to try and encourage the youth demographic to vote. She asked to suggest people and streamers for her to play with; and oh did they come.

“Anyone want to play Among Us with me on Twitch to get out the vote? (I’ve never played but it looks like a lot of fun)”

Answering the call was online personalities Pokimane and Hasanabi helping her along as she learnt how to play.

Needless to say, she gained an absolute shirtload of followers, quickly gained the absility to be subscribed to, promptly gained a bunch of subscribers and earned a Twitch Partnership in what must be record timing.

With the 2020 US presidential election only weeks away, it will be interesting to see what AOC’s connection with the gaming community and popular streamers did to encourage voting and awareness towards the American election.

As of this posting, she has 644,000 followers on Twitch.
