St George Basketball Association Grand Final Is Set

The Brothers, sponsored by FNX Network, have reached the Grand Final for the St George Basketball Association after a thrilling victory over The Supersonics 49-43.

They will meet the winner of The Supersonics and Ball Don’t Lie in 2 weeks’ time at the Hurstville Aquatic Centre.

The Brothers were led by Steve “Chicken” Azzi (21 points) and Louie Mitri (18 points). The suspension of Alex Obeid thought to have hurt The Brother’s chances but Justin Saidi was confident that The Brothers would prevail and reach the big stage.

Justin Saidi hit a crucial 3 pointer keeping The Brothers in the game while Chris Azzi provided much need defence and spark throughout the game. Jason Hachem returned after a serious back injury providing depth in the backcourt with his rebounding and defence.

After trailing 28-24 at halftime The Brothers regrouped to tie the game at 34-34 with 13 minutes to go thanks to some great defence by Brothers Centre Nathan Tsioulos. Brothers Captain Anware Saidi finished with 2 points and 7 assists.

”I thought we did really well defensively, we were confident even though we were down at halftime. We stuck together and played good team basketball ” said Saidi.

Brothers led 44-40 with 6 minutes to go after a floater from Anware Saidi. After Nathan Tsioulos grabbed an offensive rebound and finishing with a layup to put the brothers up 46-40.

Supersonics hit a basket bringing them within 4 with 2 minutes to go 46-42.

However free throws from Steve Azzi and Louie Mitri put the icing on the cake cementing their place in the grand final.
