I literally walked into this band as I was leaving Vans Warped Tour 2013 in Sydney. Being fuelled by the excitement of the festival, I was feeling great (and burnt)
As soon as I left the gates a male named Kiran came up to me and offered me an opportunity to listen to a song. Being me, I was thinking What an opportunity! As I put on the headphones and listened to a small part of ‘The Awakening’ and I was bought.
I got into a conversation with him and he told me about this new band called Cōpia and how they are hitting the pavement and following the Vans Warped Tour and Soundwave across Australia in 2013 to try and sell as many CDs as possible. This was very inspiring to hear. Here is a band who is literally chasing their dream of becoming a band who tours, and plays on the big stage. They have an amazing album and what is also a massive bonus in my eyes, is you can feel and see the passion and fire they have to be heard and to be on the big stage.
This band consists of four artists:
- Vocals – Andrew Bishop
- Guitar – Glenn Parkinson
- Drums – Chris Chapman
- Bass – Julian Meyer
Their first Album, ‘Eleven : Eleven’ consists of 12 tracks:

By continuing the riff from ‘Paratus’ in ‘The Awakening’ it creates a sense of flow. I found the message behind ‘The Awakening’ amazing, it is telling the listener that the band is awakening and that everyone should be ready. Having this as their first vocal track shows they mean business and are ready to rock. The third track ‘Fortitude’ has a very strong rock sound. ‘Fortitude’ is all about becoming a better person and leaving the bad behind. It is like they are creating a clean slate for the album. The strong guitar presence creates Cōpia’s edgy, rock music.

‘Worlds Align’ is track five, this track portrays that the past is the past and that you should let people in and create a new future.’Ego’ follows as track six and continues the rock and orchestral sound. It is a track that defiantly gets you pumped and you can feel the fire burring inside.
Track six, ‘Stand United’ starts quite softer that the other tracks in this album and gives a very inspiring and united message of being together through the thick and in “until the end”. This is a great message to be sent to the listeners and fans. Every band who wants to go anywhere needs listeners and fans to “stand united until the end”. I find this track very empowering. The next track has a quite a different start to it, has a slight electronic feel. Track seven ‘Here and Now’ is about being in the moment and not missing it, don’t be in the past or the future, life is about “here and now”. The heavy guitar and drums continue in this track but a slight electronic sound is incorporated, Mindy likes!
‘Open Your Eyes’ has a heavy string presence. I think this is what is going to make Cõpia be an individual and stand out band to watch and listen to. I’m not into orchestral (André Rieu stuff) but mixing rock with it, its amazing! ‘Elevate’ follows as track ten, I could see this song being used in an action movie as the protagonist finds the inner strength to fight back and find the courage to save a victim or win the fight. This song is all about stepping up and elevating to having the power to overcome some hard times and the struggle to come out victorious.

It is all about evolving into a better, stronger and courageous you. “It’s time for a revolution” and become a better version of yourself. This would be a good song for me while doing something that would normally be pushed away (like the gym), when I listen to this track I feel pumped. Last and not least of this wicked album, track twelve! ‘Reflection’, this track is amazing.
I find it quite emotional (not in the way I have used a whole box of Kleenex) but this album has told us a important story. It is not just a few people playing instruments or singing into a microphone, it was a story of never letting yourself be pushed around, becoming a stronger and better you. This instrumental finish doesn’t need any words. It says it all with the uplifting sound that gives you a sense of accomplishment.
The end of the album has left me with a ‘What do I do now?’ feel. Just like when your favourite movie finishes, your favourite book ends or your favourite album stops, press replay or reread and wait for the next instalment. I really wish all the best for Cõpia and I hope to hear them at a live gig or any new music they release in the future.
