[dropcaps style=’2′]If you’re jealous of someone you know who has Google Fiber, prepare for even worse news… they could soon be even faster. We already know Google Fiber is the fastest in the broadband provider field for the US, but now news has come out from the chief financial officer Patrick Pichette that the super-fast and current 1Gb/s connection speed will increase.[/dropcaps]
By 10 times the amount.
The announcement came at this year’s Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference that the specifications were being worked on which would deliver the staggering 10Gb/s into both homes and offices on its ever expanding network.
It will also come sooner than expected.
Patrick Pichette says Google could easily make a 10 year roll out plan however it is not unfeasible to believe the network could be upgraded within 3 years. He has said this is “where the world is headed” in an article in USA Today, and that there is “no need to wait”.
Speaking as an Australian in a country where a roll out of fiber from the federal level has failed, it is a truth that Patrick Pichette speaks. The world demands faster internet speeds for web browsing and for cloud services to flourish, a push to 10Gb/s would certainly make the transition from desktop to web seem almost seamless.
Google’s exploration into the Internet Service Provider field was greeted as a gag by major ISP networks provider, but now it seems they could be their biggest threat.
Which only means better quality for the rest of us.
