When the Minecraft movie was first spoken about it got some puzzled looks from many who thought the idea of a movie about an open sandbox would be unfeasible. But it seems the nuts and bolts (or atleast the planks and enderstone) is finally in place and production is moving forward. Mojang and Warner Bros say not only is it official but they have a director for it. Mojang COO Vu Bui made the announcement today that Rob McElhenney, one of the main cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia playing the infamous Mac, has been signed up to direct the film.

Previously Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy was originally sought after but Rob McElhenney who has directed many Sunny episodes seems to have made his mark despite not yet releasing a full featured movie as director. Last year however Legendary Pictures locked him in to direct Figment, an action-adventure family friendly movie.
