The Last of Us will be hitting the big screen after a live-action adaption of Naughty Dog’s 2013 hit was signed on by Screen Gems and given responsibility to Ghost House Pictures, headed by Sam Raimi.
The script will be written by Neil Druckmann, the Creative Director for the game. Creative architecture has been put into the hands of Naughty Dog co-presidents Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, Neil Druckmann again and Bruce Straley the Game Director of the original epic.
The story will possibly be a retelling or continuance of Joel’s story has he travels the new post-zombie apocalypse fighting to survive with his young travelling partner Ellie. It has been a huge hit with a great number of awards presented and has held place as a high selling game last year.
Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper, after being introduced to the game, said: “When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay”.
We absolutely agree, and innovation with creativity is needed when there are so many zombie shows on both the big screen and television.
Naughty Dog Co-president Evan Wells said about the partnership with Sam Raimi “It’s a perfect fit. Since our game released last June, we’ve talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn’t have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards”.
As always, we will post the trailer once it emerges and expect a review when it comes out. Comment your thoughts below.
