In its opening weekend, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel made $153 million (USD) in North America and $455 million (USD) worldwide. It’s the biggest global debut for a women-fronted film ever and the second-biggest debut for a Super Hero movie, right behind Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War.

Of all Marvel Studios film releases, Captain Marvel had the seventh-largest debut in North America behind:

  • Avengers
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Iron Man 3

It is also the second-biggest domestic debut of a new character behind Black Panther.

“Captain Marvel is pulling in more money [globally] than any Super Hero film introducing a new character.”
– The Hollywood Reporter.

Internationally, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel had the sixth-biggest opening weekend of all time. Imax theaters also accounted for $36.1 million, breaking the record for a non-sequel.
