Back in February, Lily Allen dropped a surprise announcement that caught plenty of fans off guard: her first Australian and New Zealand tour in more than seven years, built around her acclaimed new album West End Girl. Now, with the tour just around the corner, she’s revealed who’ll be warming up the crowd and shared a bit more about what fans can expect when the curtain goes up.

When Frontier Touring announced the tour earlier this year, it was billed as Lily Allen’s biggest headline run to date. Rather than rolling out a standard greatest-hits set packed with classics like Smile, The Fear and Not Fair, Allen committed to something a bit more ambitious. The entire show is built around West End Girl, her first album in seven years and one that has already racked up more than 275 million streams worldwide. The concept is simple but bold: play the whole album, from the first track to the last, exactly as it appears on the record.

The original announcement included dates in Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, but demand quickly led to extra shows being added in both Sydney and Melbourne. The latest update, released on 7 October, makes it clear this won’t be a standard pop concert. According to the tour announcement, Lily Allen Performs West End Girl has been designed as a continuous piece of live theatre. Rather than stopping between songs for banter and crowd interaction, the album unfolds as a narrative experience, with the songs acting as scenes in a larger story. It’s an unusual approach for a major arena tour and sounds closer to a theatrical production than a traditional pop show. Reviews from previous runs across the UK, Europe and North America have reportedly praised the production’s emotional impact and ambitious staging.

Alongside the update, Allen confirmed that Dallas Minor Sextet will open all seven dates of the tour. The group was previously known as Dallas Minor Trio before expanding into a six-piece cello ensemble. Their inclusion feels like a natural fit for the tour’s more dramatic and theatrical direction. Rather than bringing out a conventional indie-pop support act, Allen has opted for something a little different, helping set the tone before the main show begins. If the goal is to create an atmosphere that’s more stage production than arena singalong, Dallas Minor Sextet sounds like the perfect choice.

For Aussie fans, this looks set to be one of the more unique international tours to hit our shores this year. Rather than simply revisiting her back catalogue, Lily Allen is betting big on West End Girl, turning the album into a full-scale theatrical event and taking it into some of the largest venues in Australia and New Zealand. Whether you’re a long-time fan who’s followed her since Alright, Still or someone who’s jumped on board with West End Girl, this tour promises something a bit different from the usual arena experience. And with Dallas Minor Sextet opening the show each night, audiences can expect the mood to be set from the moment the lights go down.
